AIR has successfully implemented a reforestation project in the Chimaltenango area of Guatemala. The grant willhelp AIR replicate this work in the Todos Santos area.

 

Clean Water Network $7,000
Washington, DC
The grant will assist the Steering Committee of the Network's Feedlot Work Group in providing public input to the Environmental Protection Agency's rewrite of the rules and regulations guiding feedlot management, to assure they are effective in reducing water pollution from factory farms.

 

Cochrane Ecological Institute $8,000
Cochrane, Alberta, Canada
The Foundation is participating with CEI and the Blackfeet Indians to reintroduce the Swift Fox to the Blackfeet Tribal Lands in Montana.

 

Defenders of Wildlife $25,000
Washington, DC
With Canadian grass roots organizations, Defenders is working to protect endangered species in Canada. The grant will further that work.

 

Eastern Shore Land Conservancy $8,000
Queenstown, MD
ESCL works to protect unique natural areas and monitor lands to ensure permanent preservation of land on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The grant will enable ESCL to host a regional planning conference.

 

Environmental Film Festival $2,500
Washington, DC
The funds will help in staging an environmental film festival in March 2000.

 

Fundacion Amigos de la Naturaleza $8,000
Santa Cruz, Bolivia
FAN manages and protects two national parks in Bolivia. The grant will assist in transferring solar equipment from the Headquarters of Noel Kempff Mercado National Park to Los Fieros, an area more accessible to Bolivians, thereby improving their experiences in the Park.

 

GREEN Canada $10,000
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
The grant will help in the creation of an environmental electronic network permitting communications between grassroots Canadian environmental groups.

 

Maryland-DC Chapter of the Nature Conservancy $10,000
Chevy Chase, MD
For more than 20 years the Chapter has focused on preventing habitat loss and species extinction in Maryland. The assistance will facilitate the Chapter's work protecting the biological diversity of the Chesapeake Bay Lowlands, through development of an Ecoregional Plan on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Orangutan Foundation International $15,000
Los Angeles, CA; Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia
Part of the Orangutan Foundation 's mission is to protect the forests and wildlife, including orangutans, within Tanjung Putting National Park, located in Borneo, Indonesia. Funds will assist in establishing patrols to protect the orangutans and their forest habitat within the Park.

 

R.A.R.E Center for Tropical Conservation $10,000
Oakland, CA
The funds will contribute to RARE's Promoting Protection Through Pride Campaign in Guatemala's Maya Biosphere Preserve, which will encourage the residents of the MBR in the Peten to appreciate and protect their wildlife and plant life. The MBR provides critical habitat for a rich diversity of flora and fauna, many of which are rare or highly threatened.

 

Tri-Community Preservation $2,000
Massey, MD
The grant will help this grassroots group on Maryland's Eastern Shore to protect the aquifer on which the area depends for drinking water.

 

Washington College $5,000
Chestertown, MD
The grant will assist the College in its environmental education programs.

 

White Mountain Apache $5,000
Whiteriver, AZ
The funds will help with the reintroduction of the Mexican Wolf onto the White River Apache Reservation.
